Point Mugu Camping Trip Sept.2016

This was the trip that started our obsession with traveling. We wanted to find a place to camp right on the beach for Amber's birthday. After looking for places up and down the coast of California, we came across a primitive campground in Point Mugu. We got lucky booking a site a month out when it is ideal to book most camp sites 6 months in advance. We set out a day earlier than planned, of course, from Phoenix and the drive took us about 7 hours to get to Huntington Beach. The first night we stayed at a Best Western (our reservations for Point Mugu were for the following day). That night we found an awesome restaurant called The Lazy Dog, the food was great and it was pet friendly. We had our dog Penny with us so she got her own plate of goodies ordered off the "Dog Menu". When we woke up the next morning we took penny to Huntington Dog Beach where she had a blast. All the dogs were in heaven on that beach!! I'll never forget penny getting too close to a wave that took her out, she was just a pup then so the wave was like a mountain compared to her (which didn't stop her, small but mighty). After the beach, we headed north to check in and get our site. FINALLY!! When arriving we were taken back by the BREATH TAKING VIEWS of Marine layer rolling in over the mountain and hills right off the Pacific Coast Highway. The campground, Thornhill Broome, is right off the PCH. When you pull into the campground there is a check-in booth and you can buy firewood from the host. If you needed any extra firewood you could always walk right across the PCH to the mountain were there is plenty of shrub trees. There are about 30 campsites, they are all spaced out enough where you don't feel crowded. Half of the sites were vacant so it felt like we had our own private beach. It was absolutely amazing. We set up camp, got the fishing poles and cast out!! We enjoyed a cocktail while watching Penny run up and down the beach with an AMAZING sunset in the background. The beach is really nice, in some spots there are rock piles that have washed up so making totem stacks was convenient and opted for great photos. After 3 nights our time at Point Mugu had come to an end we couldn't bare to head back to Phoenix quite yet. Off on a blind adventure to find a new place for the night! After numerous attempts we finally came across a awesome pet friendly motel in Los Angeles, about 4 miles away from Venice Beach. It was a diamond in the ruff!! Villa Brasil Motel!!! Family owned and operated, they even have their own restaurant on site! The food was deeeelishhh!!! The rooms were cozy, definitely a more intimate setting. We had a queen bed with a small kitchen and a good sized bathroom. It was like stepping into a hidden Brazilian paradise. Penny was a wore out pup and stayed in the room while we headed out, we needed Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co. Our last venture was to travel back up to Santa Monica Pier for the evening. We ate and walked the pier...lets not forget about the heard of Pokemon Go players running for their lives to catch something "rare". That was quite the sight!! The Santa Monica Pier is a famous spot full of tourists during the day. Well known for it being the end of Route 66 and the pier being built of wood in the late 1800's and opened in September of 1909, it's worth seeing! After the sunset most of the crowd leaves and all that remains are fisherman. They were catching everything from Croaker (fish) to Lobeter and Octopus! SO COOL!!!
